Trap the Mouse- Skill Building Game
Students must prevent a mouse from escaping a hexagonal grid by placing blocks to create barriers. The goal is to trap the mouse by thinking ahead and anticipating its movements.
- Grade Levels: grades 1+
- Skills Developed: strategic thinking, problem solving, logical reasoning, and spatial awareness
- Standards Addressed:
Common Core Mathematical Practices - make sense of problems and persevere in solving them by identifying and placing blocks to trap the mouse, look for and make use of structure by recognizing patterns in the grid and using them to create effective barriers
- Classroom Use:
Reflection Activity - students reflect on their block placement choices and discuss how they could adjust their strategy for better outcomes
STEM Integration - use the game to teach logical reasoning, planning, and strategy as students analyze the best ways to trap the mouse
